Burning Chocolate Is (Totally) Allowed

On Monday, I went to an after school taster day at a Sixth Form College, and I tried an amazing lesson of English Lit/Lang, as well as a wonderful Physics lesson. Basically, we were looking at the topic of waves (interestingly, something that I have not studied before) and our teacher gave us some equipment to calculate the speed of light: a microwave without the rotating plate thingy, a normal ceramic plate, and a bar of chocolate. Interesting, right? Anyway, we were supposed to place the chocolate on the plate, then put it in the microwave. Because it was not rotating, the waves hit two points, and therefore burnt (slightly) two points on the bar. If we measured this distance and multiplied it by the frequency of the microwave, we would have a rough estimate of the speed of light. Oooh, science. And, by the way, *Do try this at home☺️ So, in our little group, we put the chocolate in the microwave and I turned it on (to 30 minutes because I don't understand h

We've Studied Macbeth So Much That We Know All the Words

I've been a little busy recently, which is sad because I like writing stuff for my blog. But yeah, exams suck and I'm so tired already and I've still got another week  but look on the bright side- oh, no, wait. There is no bright side. In other news, I don't really have anything important to talk about? Shock, horror, I know, but honestly, everything's just been so busy lately that I haven't thought about the latest news story and nothing funny happens at school anymore because, guess what? We're in exams! I had Food Practical for two hours today, but I'm not going into detail with that. Let's just say, I'm very glad that I have friends who are happy to give hugs, and that my hands were shaking so badly that I couldn't cut up the onions. But anyway! Yesterday we went to see Macbeth after school (we got back at midnight) and it was flipping awesome! (I now will not use exclamation marks for a few days, as I've used up my weekly limit

Carers Week

Hi everyone! It feels like it's been ages since I last posted anything (or really wrote anything for that matter) but hey, exams! Anyway, this week (11th-17th June) is Carers Week, so I thought that I'd do some raising of awareness for Young Carers. First of all, shout out to my friend for standing up in assembly to talk about this, and for all those who ran the cake stall at school (they raised £69!). She's so amazing, and most of the following information comes from her. There are three main types of care that someone can provide-  physical (e.g helping to get dressed), practical (e.g shopping) and emotional (e.g comforting them if they’re upset or anxious etc). My friend thinks that emotional is probably the hardest to deal with, and it can worry carers a lot, especially when they’re at work or school (is that person ok, has anything happened to them etc), and I have to say that I agree. For young carers, the most common situations are looking after a paren

Literally the Most Stressful Time Ever

NOTE: I'm using the word 'literally' in the informal sense-  used for emphasis while not being literally true.  Therefore, while this afternoon was pretty stressful, it was not necessarily  the most stressful time ever. (Also, I may have  overdramatized  some events because my mind tends to blow things out of proportion) Anyway, to the context. MasterChef at my school. My friend and I had won the heats for our house, and were into the final along with pairs from the other five houses. She came over so that we could plan and practise our two dishes, and everything was fine. Until it wasn't. I obviously read my email wrong (and then couldn't double-check because the school emails are down!) and we found out in form that the competition was today. Today. We had no ingredients , no recipe, no nothing. I was on the verge of crying, so my friend stood up and took me to see my mum (who works at the school, so it's not like we went home) so that we could ask

Procrastination

So, this half term, I'm supposed to have done loads of revision for my mock exams that I have soon (in two weeks- yay). What have I done? Absolutely nothing. I mean, I have done stuff, but it's not really related to revision. Like this afternoon, I was supposed to do some Biology and some History, but instead I bought a new book for my Kindle and read it. Oops. I also managed to play my flute and my guitar to put off doing revision, which I guess is a good thing (?). My friends and I were talking earlier today about revision, and our lack of it, when one of my friends said/texted, " What I find funny is that we as a group are supposed to be the smart ones that do revision and collectively we have done nothing ". My reply was that we have been defying expectations since 2002, which then led to her calling me mate (considering she is the poshest person ever, that's really weird) and then two of them ganging up on me to call me old (direct quote: " the
