Why Do Ducks Stand Out In The Rain

Image
So it's Mothering Sunday today (have you seen the Google Doodle, 'cos it's adorable- and maybe you'll understand the title for today) and I was going to do a post yesterday, then I remembered today and so here we are. Firstly, thanks to Mum for being wonderful and amazing and supporting me through everything (even though I don't want to do science in the future 😂) Secondly, this IMPORTANT FOR TODAY (because I know it can be hard, for those who aren't mothers for reasons, or for those who miss their mothers for reasons): Mothers aren't just the biological ones, the ones that you live with. While my own mother is incredibly important to me, there are other mothers who have helped 'raise' me so that I am the person who I am now.  For example, my three godmothers, or my friends' mothers, or the women at Church who give me cake (and more cake). My older cousins, my aunts, my grandma, my friend's grandma- they are all amazing an

That Moment When You Remember That You Still Need To Think Of A Title

Hi everyone! So, I haven't written anything for ages (oops) and I thought I might as well. There's not much to comment on society wise- Cyclone Idia has wreaked havoc in southern Africa, Brexit still is/isn't happening, Trump is still there, and I found a wonderful little article about the history of the white picket fence (it can be found here ) So what can I write about? Well, sometimes I write my name and think, "that's such a weird name" and then I remember that it's my name. Incidentally, the same one that I've had for sixteen years . Can't get the people these days. And does this happen to anyone else? John Dalton developed a stomach ulcer (joking, he actually developed the modern atomic theory but Tassomai gave that as one of the possible answers for a question- another one would be that the three states of matter are Texas, Washington and New York). I love doing revision. When I get to something like this (when I don't have an

So yesterday was International Women's Day (also known as 'When's International Men's Day' Day) and also my friend's birthday (shout out to you, you amazing human being!), and I was going to write something about it... But obviously, I didn't. Sorry about that. In my defence, I have just had a week of mocks (nine in five days!) and so, when I got home, I sat and watched three episodes of Bones and drank a cup of tea. And so this is my International Women's post, only a day late. First off, I'd like to say thank you to all those women in my life who have inspired me- my friends, my sisters, and mostly my mum. You're all wonderful, and don't let anyone tell you differently. (I was going to use an exclamation point here, but I've already used one this post and I have this thing about exclamation points...perhaps another time I will explain) This post is mostly about different body types and body positivity, as it's something th

At The Close of One Door

I've just finished watching (binge-watching) 'Outnumbered', so I'm feeling a bit lost (what better way to ground myself than by writing a blog post, am I right). But I didn't cry (too much) at the last episode, like I did during to whole of the last episode of 'Bad Education'. But, anyway, if you haven't seen 'Outnumbered', I'd suggest watching it. So many of the things that happened are just so right and, as the oldest sibling, it makes sense. It helps that it is incredibly funny as well. So go and watch it (it's on BBC iPlayer at the moment) or go and rewatch it. But as one door closes, another opens, so I've just started doing 40acts for Lent. It's a Christian thing that sends me an email every day with challenges (easy, medium, hard) to be more generous, more loving, but whatever your religious beliefs, I think it's important to think of others, and what better time than right now to start (click this link to begin).

What Makes Something Really Interesting Is...

Hi! It's me again- how long has it been since my last post? Oops. Anyway, it was my friends birthday yesterday, and we had a party for her last night-this morning. I thought that she should get a shout out, because she's awesome and because it's the only interesting thing that's happened this week. Apart from my French Speaking Mock (is that interesting? I don't know). But we had a party, which isn't really my thing, although I did enjoy myself for at least a few hours (are you proud of me?) and I even danced! I know. Amazing. Also, isn't it weird how songs can remind you of things? Like 'Mr Brightside' instantly makes me think of my Silver DofE expedition, and 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' always reminds me of the New York/Washington DC trip. Or how 'You Give Love a Bad Name' (or anything by Lawson) takes me back to Saturdays before revision, when we used to tidy/clean the house while the music played at the top of the st
