A Little Bit Of Blood Never Hurt Anyone

Sounds ominous, doesn't it? (Also, if you don't like the thought of blood etc this probably isn't the blog post for you) Today, I did my first exam of this year- Food!  I had three hours to make three dishes: Salmon Samosas, an Indian Thali (chicken korma, pork vindaloo, tarka dahl, rice, naan), and Japanese Souffle Pancakes. Last year, when I did my mock practical exam, let's just say that it didn't go too well...I did a lot of crying at the end of it. But this year, as nervous as I was, I actually did okay. *If you're thinking of doing food, don't let the following story put you off. Practical exams don't generally go like this, and if anything puts you off, let it be the sheer amount of coursework and theory that has to be learnt (in our theory mock exam last year, we had to write a 12-mark argument for/against the use of GM foods). Anyway, my practical exam today. There were only seven of us in the kitchen, each at a differ

What Do I Have In Common With Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus?

Morning everyone! How's life for you all? So, because I have nothing to write about today, I'm going to talk about the wonders of Astrology, and work out if I fit my star sign at all, because I thought that it would be...fun? My birthday is at the end of November: therefore, I am classed as a Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the archer, being represented by the symbol of a bow and arrow. Apparently, he is a half human-half horse, making him a centaur. Centaurs are learned healers whose intelligence forms a bridge between Earth and Heaven. I don't really know how I feel about that. I don't even know what that means. This is the list of things about Sagittarius's that I found on  this  website (I'm sure that you'd love to check it out): Element: Fire (more about this later, but I do enjoy watching a good campfire) Quality: Mutable (I had to look this word up, and apparently it has something to do change- I hate change, let me tell you this now)

A Place Of Our Own

Good morning, and what a joyous one (I'm hoping)! As promised on Friday, here is my *highly interesting* post about... Generation Rent. Basically, I am part of a Folk Group at my school (playing mandolin) and we are currently playing some music by a husband and wife duo by the name of 'Megson'. One of the songs is called 'Generation Rent' and, like all good folk songs, it talks about important issues of the day. Have a listen here . (I'd suggest listening to the song before reading the rest of this post though). Anyway, having this song stuck in my head for a whole week (sorry in advance) made me wonder: what actually is Generation Rent? You may have heard of Millenials- Generation Rent is just another name for this demographic. Demographics interest me greatly (and I guess all social science interests me), although I'd never become a demographer because I'd have to do a maths degree. *shudders* But, here's a nice little table so that you

I Have The Answers To (most of) Your School Questions

Hi everyone- I'm back! I'm so sorry that I haven't been published a post for ages, but I have an exciting one (at least I think it's exciting) planned for Sunday (so keep an eye out) but it needs a bit of research and careful planning, so that's why I'm not doing it now. Also because I'm doing English Literature revision (poetry) and I need to focus on that. So, what's new with me? Well, as I stated in the title, I feel like this blog has an element of informing people about Sixth Forms/Year 11 (at the moment, at least), and I wish to add to this. Remember my post about visiting two different Sixth Forms (if not, I have you covered:  first post  and second post )? Well, after a long process of applying to the grand total of two colleges (including writing a personal statement (ugh)) I have a 'guidance meeting' soon with one of them (still waiting to hear back from the other one). A guidance meeting is NOT an interview (apparently) and

The Adventures of Corbin, Nutley, and Cudroe

Good evening, friends and comrades and others! As a writer, I often give people answers to weird questions and get weird looks as a direct result of knowing said answers. I have to blame reading too much and watching TV shows like Criminal Minds (this is why I was able to give a mini-lecture on why people become serial killers on Wednesday in our Creative Writing group). Anyway, once again, Wilberfun has made me laugh again today. If you can't recall, Wilberfun is a task that is completed by forms in our house. For a post about another Wilberfun that we did, click on this link .  People make me laugh sometimes. Anyway, today's task was to match the famous person up with the degree they hold. To make it harder, I'd added degrees to the list that no one had, and they also had to work out the person. Some groups did very well, and some did... not as well. Firstly, no one can spell the name of our esteemed Labour leader ( Corbin ) and they also think that h

Reading the news is not all it's cracked up to be

Okay, so I've been meaning to write another blog post for ages now (sorry about that) but I just haven't had the energy. Or the ideas. Ideas are always important for a blog, especially as I like to talk about social issues because, let's face it, where else am I going to share them (it's not like anyone at school really listens)? But what has happened recently in the life of myself? Well: I've published 11 books in total now! *cheering* If you have bought a copy, make sure to leave a review after reading it (please, of course). I saw 'The Favourite' at the cinema with my friend last weekend. Was it good? Yes, well-acted and darkly humorous (just the way I like it). It also ended on a slightly odd note, so we left the cinema in a state of confusion. College applications are being reviewed and sent out, which is fun and terrifying and feels really quite weird. Yeah, that's probably all the update you need. Nothing really exciting has

What can you now find on Amazon?

The answer is: my book! This is j ust a quick note to say that you can now buy 'The Forgotten Ones' on Amazon for Kindle (And if you don't have a Kindle, remember that you can purchase it for other devices, or alternatively, download the Kindle app for your phone). Thank you for all your support, and I hope that you enjoy! Link is here , and click this link to buy it from all other available sites (I was checking this out, and discovered that I'd published it to Angus and Robertson, which is an Australian site...I have no recollection of making this decision, but oh well! Enjoy, Australians!) Also, if you do read it, make sure you leave a review on whatever site you bought it from. ☺️ Thank you!

A Very Happy New Year To You All

New year, new me. Haha, nope. I'm still the same as I was last year, and besides, who really sticks to their resolutions anyway? As someone who would ask the Doctor to go back in time rather than forwards, I feel like you should look back over the past year and see what you have accomplished. Because you'll have done a lot more amazing things that you'd have first thought. My list includes: started this blog published my first novel achieved some pretty great Mock results done a lot of baking been to America (this includes surviving on the Metro) completing Silver DofE (involving a total of six days walking) coming second in a school cooking competition despite forgetting my ingredients and the recipe (see my post about it  here ) did work experience won a science competition moved house I'm sure that they're more, but now I can look over this and be proud of what I have done. I have no resolutions this year: just hoping that this time nex
