Recipe: Lemon and Raspberry Cake

Hello all! As promised yesterday (find yesterday's post here ) this is the (must awaited) cake recipe. *Note (not connected to the recipe): if you search the name of my blog into Google (Musings of a Perfectionist) then my blog is the first search result to come up! It used to be about fifth, maybe sixth, but it's now first! I don't know why this feels like such a big accomplishment, but it does. Anyway, the recipe is below. Sorry that there's no picture, but I didn't think of taking one before we went to school and it was eaten. Lemon and Raspberry Cake Ingredients (for cake): 175g butter, softened 175g caster sugar 3 eggs 175g self-raising flour Zest of one and a half lemons 2 tbsp lemon juice Whole raspberries Ingredients (for buttercream):  200g icing sugar 100g butter, softened 2 tbsp lemon juice Zest of half a lemon Ingredients (for raspberry compote): 400g raspberries 300g caster sugar 2 tbsp water 1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice

Old Friends, Tea, Cake, and Cards

Hello! We had our Sponsored Walk today, so I've walked about 8 miles and eaten far too much sugar, but a cup of Earl Grey Tea has solved all my problems (apart from, perhaps, my need for real food). ALSO: I've suddenly had 42 page views today?!? Welcome, all of you!! Have you subscribed...? 😂 There should be a post coming soon with an actual recipe! (Are you excited?) It's the recipe for the Lemon and Raspberry cake that I made for my friend's 16th birthday. I felt very bake-off, designing it all out and then forming my own cake. So look out for that post, coming soon. At school yesterday, we had a half day, and two of my friends came round (one to see the new house, the other to see it again). We went for a walk in the woods that live near our house, and I must admit that I got some pretty awesome pictures. Some of them look rather creepy, like the one of my sister just standing between some trees in the distance, and some of them were pretty cool, like one of m

Why Do I Bake?

So we have an Instagram Page so that the Student Leaders from our school can work together to organise Prom. This is not the problem, in fact, it's a great idea, and I think that we're going to be really organised, but it's for Prom . As in, Prom next year. I cannot believe that everyone in my year is going to be doing our GCSE's next year, followed by having our own Prom. Prom is for the older kids, the ones with their lives sorted out. It's the one night where everything falls into place, at least if you believe what the American films tell you. It's not for us, for people my age. It just feels wrong, you know? Anyway, so there's that. Also, my cousin visited us today and she gave us a load of old clothes, so I now have two more pairs of shorts (a bit too big for me, but oh well), a really nice skirt, and a purple t-shirt that says, " I bake because punching people is frowned upon " and I feel that this is pretty accurate. But don't

Bletchley: Home of the Codebreakers

Hello everyone- I hope you had a better day than I did (school photos are not fun) (also some of this was written a few days ago, so I did not actually have school photos today). So, a few days ago now, I went to Bletchley Park with some people from school and it was pretty amazing. Perhaps some context is needed. Basically, six people from my year (including myself) won two sections of a science challenge, and our big prize was to go to Bletchley Park. Yay! (My sister also won, with two other people in her year) Yeah, so I went to Bletchley Park. We had a guided tour first of all, although we didn't actually see that much, and then we got to wander around a couple of the huts for a bit. Then we did a codebreaking session, which was pretty cool. I worked with one of my friends, and my sister worked with my other friend (afterwards we decided that she's far too good at codebreaking for her own good...). I worked out that I prefer a monoalphabetic cipher

MASSIVE THANK YOU!

Musings of a Perfectionist has now reached 1000 views!! This means so much to me, and I can't quite believe that I only started writing posts in May. So thank you to everyone who has subscribed, or read any of my posts.  So, I was just wondering, what was your favourite post so far? I have some favourites, but everyone must have their own opinion (at least, I hope my readers aren't robots...). Comment below with the title of your favourite post. Thank you again! 😘

A Little Japanese Poem

Hi everyone! Wow, it's been a long time. Sorry about that. I've been very busy with school (bleugh) and the new house and unpacking (and washing up...a lot) and there's very little WiFi to boot. It's not been great. Anyway, big announcement. This blog has almost had 1000 views!!! This is seriously amazing and means so much to me, so thanks for continuing to read (and subscribe...you know you want to). So. The title of this post. If you didn't manage to guess it, the answer is a HAIKU. Basically, I knew that I needed to write a post soon (especially if I want to hit 1000 views!) and I was about to bin some stuff from school, before I thought, "Hey! I could put that in a blog post!" Life works out pretty well sometimes. I am an Interform Captain at my school, which means that once a week either my partner or I  have to come up with some sort of task for each form to compete against each other in. We've done some quizzes, a human knot gam

What I Didn't Miss About School

Good afternoon everyone! I've been very busy today, so I had to actually schedule a time to write a blog post, which makes me feel very grown up and business-like. We've recently moved house (more on that in a later post (probably)) so I haven't done much with my novel, but as we went back to school on Wednesday, I made a list (I like doing that!) of things that I dislike about school, especially after six weeks of no school. 1) I can't show my ankles or my shoulders because REASONS 2) There is way too much noise in the canteen 3) Being reminded of exams every single lesson 4) PE! 5) Not being able to listen to music 😢 6) Having to get up at 7am 7) Eating lunch too early 8) Not being able to read whenever I want 9) People literally everywhere 10) Thinking that we're leaving school soon and that we have to start deciding where to go/what to do next What do you dislike most about having to go back to school? Cue the Music, Cue the Streamers

Hello: this is the (perhaps) long-awaited Holiday post! Cue the music and the streamers. Anyway, what I did was note down something for each day that we were out in Spain. It's actually a pretty cool exercise to do, as it makes you remember more about your day, and try to think of something vaguely interesting/funny to talk about. Day One-  I had a (tiny) extensional crisis: the thought that there are all these people just a plane journey away that have a completely different language and culture and space is insane. Also, I met a girl called Lara on the plane, which was pretty cool . Day Two- I love cats (there were so many tiny ones running around at the villa) and the greatest simile of all time is thus: the car ate up the road like spaghetti (A Clockwork Orange). Day Three- why is there so much graffiti everywhere? I mean, there is a lot in England, yes, but there is a lot more in Spain. Day Four- I seriously hate Maths sometimes (trying to do 3D Trigonome

Aeroplane Mode

I may have said that I hate airports, but the wonderful people on the actual plane make up for it. (And yes, I am being sarcastic (ever so slightly), for those of you who don't know what sarcasm is.) First of all though, anyone ever been on a BA flight when there is the video demonstrating what to do with oxygen masks, life jackets etc. What is that? It is honestly one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Secondly, the crew on the flight was lovely, so thanks to them. ☺ But the people really made the flight what it was. There was this weirdo (let's call her grinning girl) sitting next to me, who kept poking me and talking and even showed me a picture of a massive spider in her magazine (I hate spiders). Grinning girl is, of course, my sister, so it wasn't too bad (love you sis!) On the other side of the plane, a couple of seats in front of me, there was a girl with an amazing jumpsuit who accidently (I guess?) gave me a book recommendation, so thanks to jumpsuit
