Humans Desire To Simply Understand

I don't know if you've seen the Google Doodle for today, but here's the link to the YouTube clip. It's the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing, and I just wanted to say something.

Look what humans can accomplish. We're kinda doomed from the start of our little lives, aren't we, and yet, look at all the things we've managed to do. We can read and write and understand other languages. We've developed medicine over the years. We've built and invented and improved our lives- and we reached the moon.

For me, the moon landing wasn't part of the Space Race of the Cold War (although it certainly was), or about the USA being better than every other country. It was about human beings managing to work together to send three men up into space and let two of them set foot on the Moon.

It's a testimony to what humans can achieve, which is also why I have (some) faith in humanity as we're facing climate change. I believe that we will be able to put aside our (many) differences and fix what we have started. And, let's be honest here, it's mostly just politicians that are hindering our progress.

But, again, what can humans do but work together to fight against these evil people those in power?

Growing up with the knowledge that at some point we'll reach a point of no return with our climate it pretty terrifying. Maybe you saw the David Attenborough's 'Climate Change- The Facts' on the BBC, but some of the stuff on there was depressing and worrying and just made us watching it in Geography want to cry.

However, there is light. We have the technology to deal with this problem, and if humans can work together once again then we can solve the issue.

Hey, I might be able to live to be old and not die from some mass fire or population-wiping-out disease.

But if in 1969, in the midst of the Cold War, humans managed to work together enough to watch with bated breath as Neil Armstrong uttered those famous words, then surely we can work together once again, 50 years later.

Happy Moon Day, everyone (and happy birthday to mum <3).
