Heya friends! I've been up to quite a lot recently (including finishing Draft One of my Maths coursework yesssss) and today, I decided to do some researching about women in the railway industry (to be fair, this is for a challenge badge but also I am interested in female empowerment and the state of equality/lack of in the railway industry is an excellent indication of general equality in Britain). So yeah. I found out a load about the railway industry and now you can too! At the birth of the railway near the beginning of the 19th Century (around the 1830s), the industry was structured in such a way to mirror how society worked. This meant that fathers and sons would follow each other into the industry while the women would become wives and mothers. They were, however, hired by rail companies to work although this work was prohibited to ‘women’s work’ such as cleaning and sewing. So I'm watching this program on BBC iPlayer called Generation, which is a documentary by George Lamb, and it's all about youth and politics and lack of opportunities for youth and the need for social change. One guy said that his ambitions are to own a house and have a decent job. And that will make him happy. That shouldn't be the expectation for kids these days. The fact that housing costs so much that actually owning a house seems to be a pipe dream is stupid, and just wanting a job that means the bills can be paid is ridiculous. I do realise that I come from a family where we are expected to go to university and that I live in a pretty wealthy area, but I feel that I can comment on these things. Buying a house seems impossible, owning a car/paying for insurance is not going to happen, and I'll be paying off university loans for the rest of my life. I do have dreams, ambitions. So, this half term, I'm supposed to have done loads of revision for my mock exams that I have soon (in two weeks- yay). What have I done? Absolutely nothing. I mean, I have done stuff, but it's not really related to revision. Like this afternoon, I was supposed to do some Biology and some History, but instead I bought a new book for my Kindle and read it. Oops. I also managed to play my flute and my guitar to put off doing revision, which I guess is a good thing (?). My friends and I were talking earlier today about revision, and our lack of it, when one of my friends said/texted, " What I find funny is that we as a group are supposed to be the smart ones that do revision and collectively we have done nothing ". My reply was that we have been defying expectations since 2002, which then led to her calling me mate (considering she is the poshest person ever, that's really weird) and then two of them ganging up on me to call me old (direct quote: " the...
