Something to Make You Cry

Basically, I was recently doing work experience (as you may know) and I came across the term 'rainbow baby'.

A rainbow baby is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. They are known as rainbow babies because, in nature, a rainbow follows a storm and traditionally is a symbol of peace and hope.

There is an incredibly sad video that I watched during work experience, and I had to go to the toilets to make sure that it wasn't too obvious that I was crying. The link is here.

In researching further, I also discovered the term 'sunshine baby'. This refers to a baby who is born before early loss of the next child. Just as a rainbow represents the hope after the storm, the sunshine represents the calm before the storm.

And, possibly the saddest term, a child who dies is often referred to as an 'angel baby'.  Even if you don't believe in any form of Heaven, I feel that this term offers some form of comfort for the devastated parents. (Of course, I have never lost a child, and so I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of losing a child)


I feel that there seems to be a story idea somewhere in here...and I can feel my head starting to whizz with ideas. Perhaps I may write something and post it on Wattpad- I'll be sure to notify you guys in a post if I ever do. ☺️

I Find Out A Load About The Railway Industry

Heya friends! I've been up to quite a lot recently (including finishing Draft One of my Maths coursework yesssss) and today, I decided to do some researching about women in the railway industry (to be fair, this is for a challenge badge but also I am interested in female empowerment and the state of equality/lack of in the railway industry is an excellent indication of general equality in Britain). So yeah. I found out a load about the railway industry and now you can too! At the birth of the railway near the beginning of the 19th Century (around the 1830s), the industry was structured in such a way to mirror how society worked. This meant that fathers and sons would follow each other into the industry while the women would become wives and mothers. Good evening to you, my dear friend *tips hat in a respectful manner*. How have you been feeling, old sport? By the way, old sport can (and must) be used again in reverence to Gatsby as it is now the Roaring Twenties yet again (and also the title of this post is the first part of the last line of the book). Today is the 22nd of February, which means that it is the day for Girlguiding to think about other Girlguiding members around the world- my district is meeting on 27th to celebrate together. Just wanted to mention this, as it's fairly important, I believe, to think of others around the world.
