Peace and Goodwill To All Mankind

Yay for the holidays! School is over until 2019, and I am not the only one who is grateful for this (at least...I'm pretty sure I'm not?) Do I have a lot to do over the holidays? Sadly, yes. Some are things that I have to do (homework, revision) and some are things that I should do (sort out my shelves (because we moved house in September and while everything is out of boxes, it's not sorted out)) and some are things that I want to do (writing!). But I'll also make sure that I enjoy Christmas this year, especially being able to spend time with family. Even though it will be loud and intense and full of playing board games (or Pictionary, because our family is awesome) I'll enjoy it all. Every minute. A few years ago, my dad ended up in hospital for a bit just before Christmas. It was terrifying, especially as no one really knew what was wrong with him and I was round a friend's house when it happened- so I found out when I glanced at my phone while p...

Cue the Music, Cue the Streamers

Hello: this is the (perhaps) long-awaited Holiday post! Cue the music and the streamers. Anyway, what I did was note down something for each day that we were out in Spain. It's actually a pretty cool exercise to do, as it makes you remember more about your day, and try to think of something vaguely interesting/funny to talk about. Day One-  I had a (tiny) extensional crisis: the thought that there are all these people just a plane journey away that have a completely different language and culture and space is insane. Also, I met a girl called Lara on the plane, which was pretty cool . Day Two- I love cats (there were so many tiny ones running around at the villa) and the greatest simile of all time is thus: the car ate up the road like spaghetti (A Clockwork Orange). Day Three- why is there so much graffiti everywhere? I mean, there is a lot in England, yes, but there is a lot more in Spain. Day Four- I seriously hate Maths sometimes (trying to do 3D Trig...

Cats and Cheesecake

Happy Monday everyone! I hope that your weekend was wonderful, and you didn't burn too much (I burnt my legs and they hurt a lot ). We visited my mum's family this weekend. My parents stayed with my aunt and my uncle, and we (my sisters and I) stayed with my cousin and her boyfriend in their new house (very exciting!). We watched ' The Greatest Showman ' (amazing) and we also watched ' A Street Cat Named Bob ', as per the title (the cat, Bob, is ginger and the cutest little thing ever). This film was stunning. It's so adorable, and perfectly encases what being a cat owner is like, while also taking on big issues such as addiction and homelessness. And what's more, it is based on a true story! Go and watch it, I promise you that it will be amazing. I also went swimming in the sea on Saturday. Most of my mum's family lives by the sea, and so we went down at high tide and swam for a bit (and my sister choked and splashed because she can't swim...

The Place Where Childhood Dies

It's always sad when your childhood dies, isn't it? Yesterday, we had our biannual (I think that's the word anyway) festival for our village. Last time, I stayed for the whole day: participating in the parade as a Guide, eating burgers and ice cream, listening to the music, and finally watching the fireworks. This year, however, I participated in the parade (unwillingly, trust me) then went home. Despite there being something so wonderful about the family feel of a village collecting together to listen to some good music in the dark (maybe it's something to do with history and the thought of having to rely on your neighbours), I didn't want to be there for long in the heat and the noise (and I also saw loads of people that I know from school- embarrassing!☺️). So I was pretty boring and watched the Tour de France with my dad (as we do every year- those of you who also watched it, what the hell happened?? All the good riders were involved in crashes IN THE FIRST ...

Ikea and Sid

For those of you who have been to Ikea, you will agree with me when I say that it is a wonderful place. For those who haven't, think of a restaurant mixed with furniture and you pretty much get the idea. (Besides, you must have heard the glorious tales of losing one's way and one's family...who hasn't?) My family go on a day trip to Ikea. We start off early (it takes an hour in the car- eugh) and have breakfast when we get to Ikea (apart from my youngest sister- she threw up once because she hadn't eaten anything and we had to go home and it was a sad day for us all). Then we walk around the Showroom section, looking at how the rooms are all set out and choosing which kitchens we'd like. (I basically adopt the one bedroom apartment- if you've gone to Ikea, you'll know what I'm talking about). After this wandering, we enter the Market Hall and this is where we spend most of our money. (*cough* over one hundred pounds *cough*) (I only bought a ne...
