How To Relax and Cope (A Limited Guide)

Hey! I'm really very sorry that I have not written a post for ages (yet again, sigh) but, as you may have noticed, the world has gone a little crazy at the moment and we're all trying to adjust. :) Note: you know the song "Ring a Ring a Roses" is actually about the Black Death? I remember when I realised this I was horrified and couldn't work out why they had made this song about death, but now, looking at the internet, I understand. Humans cope with situations through gallows humour- whether that be songs, jokes, memes. It may be morbid, but I think that it is also very interesting and one of those "aw, I love humans" things. School ended on Friday (but two of my four lessons were cancelled so I ended on the high that was Higher Mathematics, also known as confusion) although the week had been spent with broken up lessons as teachers weren't there and half of my year left (so we were down to the grand total of about 30 students) which felt so wei...

Another Day (Not Really) Wasted

Good news, guys! I had another Values and Experiences Day at school today (slowly counting down the days until I don't have to have one ever again) and so I have some more information for you all! I can almost hear the cheering. It started with revising for quite a few hours, so I spent (however long) making Biology flashcards and totally not talking to my friend at all. Then we had the *wonderful* experience of learning about various STDs. The images will forever be seared into my mind. Basically, kids, don't have sex and you'll be okay. After this fun experience, we had a session about stress and happiness. The first question put to us was this: what makes you stressed? It tells you a lot about the mental health of teenagers nowadays that mostly everyone said something about exams, revision, the future, and life in general. But, as the government seems to be doing, let's just ignore that, shall we? To 'make' ourselves happy, we...

World Mental Health Day

Happy World Mental Health Day! Did you hear? Today, the Prime Minister (yes, still Teresa May) appointed a suicide prevention minister- Jackie Doyle-Price. Although, there has been some controversy surrounding her appointment- I suggest that you just be happy that people are finally taking note of mental health. One of the biggest things taking hold of the world of mental health is #boysdocry, and I personally believe that this is incredibly important to remember- anyone, any gender, any age, any sexuality, can experience poor mental health. I'm not going to lie, I do suffer from mental health issues. I'm not going into any detail (because not many people know and I really don't want to) but it's so important to have days like this. So, remember. Remember that when someone says, "I'm fine," they may not be, remember that it's perfectly okay to not be completely healthy, remember that you always have friends and family and people that you can ta...

Living In A World Where Owning A House Is A Pipe Dream

So I'm watching this program on BBC iPlayer called Generation, which is a documentary by George Lamb, and it's all about youth and politics and lack of opportunities for youth and the need for social change. One guy said that his ambitions are to own a house and have a decent job. And that will make him happy. That shouldn't be the expectation for kids these days. The fact that housing costs so much that actually owning a house seems to be a pipe dream is stupid, and just wanting a job that means the bills can be paid is ridiculous. I do realise that I come from a family where we are expected to go to university and that I live in a pretty wealthy area, but I feel that I can comment on these things. Buying a house seems impossible, owning a car/paying for insurance is not going to happen, and I'll be paying off university loans for the rest of my life. I do have dreams, ambitions. I am (most likely) going to university and get a job that I love (beca...

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is this week this year, ending today. It is such an incredibly important topic, and as someone who is currently going through some hard times, having a week to get more people thinking is great. Their big theme this year is stress, and the effects it has on our mental health. Stress is something that many people have to deal with, and I know that most people in my year at school are currently stressed about exams. As much as stress helps us, too much stress can make existing health issues much worse (trust me, I know). For more information, mental health foundation's website can be found  here . For those struggling/living with mental health issues: you are not alone . I know that it can feel like you are, but you are not. Remember that people love you and care about you. And if you have a relapse, don't beat yourself up, okay? It's a long uphill battle, and it will get better (I'm currently walking up a very very steep hill at th...
